Siklink.com: Fawnia, you were one of the first to offer instructional videos teaching ladies how to strip and now you have your own exotic dance school. Who is taking these classes? Can I sit in on one? haha. Fawnia: In 1994 when I began teaching it was to exotic dancers only. However in the summer of 2004 there was a major shift here in Victoria and my students were from all walks of life. They were mothers, group home counselors, and police officers. I remember in 2000 when emails started coming in often from women who wanted to learn how to strip tease for their men. As a result, in 2001 “Lap Dancing & Entertaining Your Man” was produced. Stop on by whenever you feel like it... Siklink.com: You seem to have quite a background - exotic dancing, fitness, competitions, modeling what else have you done? Fawnia: In 1994 I began working in film and television. My credits include “The Outer Limits”, “The X-Files” five appearances on “Millennium”, which my largest roles being in “Profile for Murder” starring Lance Hendrickson and my leading roles in “Dakota Bound” and “Cries of Innocence”, shot in the Czech Rep. A complete film resume can be found at here online. Siklink.com: Exactly how did you get your start? Fawnia: I credit a lot of what I do with my passion for entertaining others. Being on stage, or taking on the role of another person is very enjoyable yet challenging. Growing up I knew that I wanted to be in the public eye in some way, whether that meant dancing or acting, I really wanted to be entertaining people. My start as a dancer was when I was 19 working at Monty’s in Victoria Sunday nights. Acting began for me in grade 11 with basic acting classes. Then when I left the exotic dance stage I took a years worth of courses full time with the Screen Actors Studio with David Simmonds. Siklink.com: And now you offer a quite a selection of videos… when did you come up with this idea? Fawnia: The idea was offered from my partner at the time. In 1996 when I retired from dancing my method of promoting and teaching was by leaving my flyer at hotel doors where the dancers stayed in Victoria. Each week I would teach about 3 – 5 different girls, helping them with anything from walking in their shoes gracefully (these were the newbie’s), to preparing the 10 year veterans for contests such as Miss Nude Canada, and Entertainer of the Year. Producing instructional videos for this form of dance was yet to be heard of, so I am extremely thankful to be the first, and they did well from the start, back in 1998 when the internet was new and few exotic dancers were online. Now my idea’s come from input from past costumers: “We want a video on how to strip tease for our husbands”, and walla, “Lap Dancing & Entertaining Your Man” was born. Next I heard: “We are looking for more pole moves and have learned all that you have in ‘Pole Work’ volume 1.” So, this was my inspiration to create “Advanced Pole Work & Fire”. The industry and fans of dancing are ready for this product, and they know it, but I don’t think they realize all that can be performed on the pole. This video shows the best in pole dancing and working with fire. Siklink.com: What is the current biggest seller you have? Fawnia: My best seller is “Lap Dancing & Entertaining Your Man”. Most women are non dancers, but may have a boyfriend, husband, or will one day. However even if they don’t have a partner, the interest in this product is stemmed from women’s desire to feel sexy. I believe my next DVD I think will out sell all: Advanced Pole Work & Fire! Siklink.com: Do you think owning a dance pole is going to be as popular as owning an exercise bike? You know, If men had it their way, every home would come with one. Fawnia: Well, it is certainly a trend. Will it stay? It's hard to say but the next generation has a much different take on what pole dancing means. Being a stripper rarely comes to mind, in fact mothers who have children under the age of 10, have poles in their homes and are using them for fitness. In 2020 many people, age 35 will think of pole dancing as a workout, which it most certainly is. Siklink.com: Do you have a pole in your bedroom? Fawnia: I did have a brass pole in my spare bedroom in 1995. Today I have two “Fawnia Signature Series Lil' Mynx Dance Poles” in my living room (black and pink), and three at my other teaching location: Omni Rehab Center. (black, pink, and red). Siklink.com: With a body like yours, and all the dancing you have done - you must have guys coming on to you all the time. What’s the most outrageous proposal you have ever had? Fawnia: Thank you for the compliment! Most photos you see of me are shot when I am close to competing, the other times of the year I am about 60 pounds heavier (that was a joke). Thank you very much though; I do work hard at my physique. I am not sure that I have had a lot of outrageous proposals, but I have been given some impressive gifts: trips, a condo, money and a jeep. If you are thinking to yourself, “this girl is materialistic”, you have a lot of discovering to do. I never asked for anything, but was in a 7 year relationship with this very giving person, which ended in 2004. My perfect match is someone that puts me first above all else, including money. I have seen how money can change peoples perception of what’s important, and lose sight on how to perceive “when enough is enough” and to put energy into the ‘now’, or ‘present’. Siklink.com: Let's get back to your videos – who benefits most in the end – the men or the women? Fawnia: I firmly believe that the women are benefiting more. Many are not in relationships so learning how to move sensually is more about them finding out about their inner goddess. Those that are in relationships are sure to have men that are enjoying their wives new level of confidence. Simply from knowing how to hold a pole and do a basic spin, or crawl with intention and grace can boost confidence, with ripples into all aspects of their lives. Many women who take my classes have said that after the course they have a new outlook and are taking better care of themselves. Choices like joining a gym and eating healthier were not high on their ‘To Do’ list before. I am very thankful to have been able to offer my students more then dance moves; it’s become a class about spiritual and physical awareness. Siklink.com: Are men returning the favor and dancing for the ladies? Fawnia: If they aren’t already, they will be by the summer of 2006! From talking to women they often laugh when they think of their partners doing a strip tease for them. “See him dance? Hahaha…. I think I would die laughing.” With this sort of reaction it’s no wonder that men are not sure if doing a strip tease is a smart idea. Do you want my opinion? When someone takes the time to arrange music, wear something special, and put their heart on the line, they are showing a huge amount of trust and respect for their partner. Ladies, please just sit back, enjoy a glass of wine (men – take note: if your lady enjoys a drink, opening a bottle of wine and pouring her a glass is an excellent idea) and allow your man to dance. It’s as simple as that. Sure you never thought you would see him do a strip tease for you, but so what?! Enjoy it and know that you have a very special person. He is doing this for YOU, but it helps that he’s having a FUN time in the process. Drink up Siklink.com: Your video tapes for the most part seem to be focusing on teaching the ladies how to dance. My audience here at Siklink attracts a predominately male audience… what video would you recommend the most to the male siklink fans? Fawnia: Boyz, you may enjoy “Fawnia Live on Stage” volume 3 (VHS only) or “Fawnia’s Flexibility Girls”. In the fall I may start carrying: “Lap Dance” Entertainment for Men", featuring Over 20 Lap Dance Strippers, both amateurs and pros. I'm also working on another instructional DVD for men, coming early 2006. (check my site for info on the ‘male video’ page) Siklink.com: What are your plans for the immediate & distant future? Fawnia: So glad you asked. This September I will be at the Pre Emmy – Style Lounge along side http://www.lilmynx.com dance poles. Together we will be passing out free dance poles and copies of my new ‘Advanced Pole Work & Fire’ DVD to the stars. Then, in October I will be relocating to Las Vegas. There I will be teaching pole dancing, personal fitness training and continuing to run my websites. In 2006 I will be competing in figure contests at the Emerald Cup (second time), The North Americans, and The Canadian National (second time). Coming up on Aug, 6th I will be at the BC Championships - wish me luck!!Looking even further I would like to start a family... I just got married this past July! Siklink.com: He's a lucky guy. Good luck in your upcoming competitions and thanks for letting me hang out!!! Update: Fawnia placed 1st at the BC Provincials, securing her spot at the 2006 Canadian Nationals.
